Francis van Bossuit (1635 -1692) Flemish Sculptor

Prints from a very rare volume, Cabinet de l'art de sculpture, par le fameux sculpteur Francis van Bossuit. Executé en ivoire, ou ebouché en terre, gravées d'apres les desseins de Barent Graat, par Mattys Pool", Amsterdam 1727.

Francis Van Bossuit was a sculptor from Brussels. He was born in 1635 in Brussels and died in 1692 in Amsterdam. After studying in Brussels, he achieved mastery in Antwerp. He specialized in carving ivory. Around in the mid 1600's, he went to Italy.  He settled for many years in Rome where he produced numerous copies of antique statues. He returned to Amsterdam where he remained until his death in 1692.
